2006-2008 Director, Northwest & Pacific Region
Jim was elected the 2006-2008 Region Director at the 2005 Northwest & Pacific Regional Conference in Seattle, Washington.
Jim Suehiro, AIA LEED AP, Principal at NBBJ, is an active member of AIA Seattle since 1984. As a member of the AIA Seattle Board of Directors which culminated in his 1998-99 term as President, Jim took an active role in AIA affairs at the local, state, region, and national level. As a founding member of the AIA Seattle Diversity Roundtable, Jim helped establish a powerful vehicle for drawing people of diverse backgrounds into the profession and for honoring diverse contributions to professional excellence. As the AIA Northwest and Pacific Region Director, Jim serves on the AIA National Board 2006 – 2008. He is a member of the board AIA Integrated Practice Discussion Group and is the AIA board representative to the 3xPT Strategy Group (CURT, AGC, and AIA) that is focused on industry transformation of the project delivery process.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design and a Master of Architecture from the University of Washington.
Jim has worked in several firms during his thirty years in practice, notably with the McKinley Architects as a project designer, TRA Architecture Engineering Planning Interiors as an airport design principal, and currently at NBBJ as Principal focused on the Airports and Transportation practice. NBBJ provides architecture, planning, and design services to healthcare, corporate/commercial, institutional, educational, laboratory, transportation, and retail clients. Major projects include: Swedish Medical Center (Seattle, WA); Banner Estrella Medical Center (Phoenix, AZ); Telenor Headquarters (Oslo, Norway); Reebok Headquarters (Canton, MA); the U.S. Federal Courthouse (Seattle, WA); and the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport South Terminal Expansion (Seattle, WA).
